*128* The Politics of 'Allah'. Malaysia is still struggling to uphold basic freedoms.
God means love in many places, but in Malaysia it can also mean politics. That's the takeaway from the United Malays National Organization-led government's attempt to quash the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslim groups.
At issue is the Catholic Herald's two-year court battle to use the A-word in its Malay-language edition—which it claims it needs to do because there's no other suitable word for "God" in Malay. Last week, the High Court overturned an arbitrary government ban. Yesterday, however, the church agreed to a stay of the decision—at the government's request—until the ruling can be appealed. So the Herald is once again muzzled.
Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail characterized the decision as "a matter of national interest," which implies that somehow Muslims across Malaysia would revolt if the Herald were allowed to reference God in another language. Never mind that Malaysians of many faiths have peacefully co-existed for decades.
The real reason UMNO is politicizing the issue and pandering to its conservative base may be to deflect attention from its own political vulnerabilities. The opposition coalition, led by Anwar Ibrahim, has gained popularity by touting a vision of a secular country in which all religions have equal rights. Even the opposition's Islamic partner, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party—which hasn't always supported liberal ideas—issued a statement Monday saying that the Herald's use of "Allah" is its constitutional right.
Prime Minister Najib Razak called the A-word controversy a "sensitive issue" Sunday. But by allowing his party to continue curtailing freedom of speech, he is only stirring tensions. What a disappointment for a man who ran for office promising to create "One Malaysia."

*126* interesting facts about me
1) I cut my hair when i am depressed
2) My room is always messy
3) I walk around the whole house when i brush my teeth
4) I will play songs(hp) when i bathe, brush my teeth and in the loo too.
5) I always try to remind myself to brush my teeth after every meal.
6) I don't bathe much. sometimes when i am lazy, i only bathe once a day. if i am super lazy, i will not bathe at all unless my mum reminds me. =)
7) I like bathing during late at night when i am stressed out. then go to bed.
8) i always have headache. approximately 5 times a week? i am so scared of panadols now.
9) i always sms with both of my phones. 1 for digi pals and 1 for maxis pals =)
10) but YET! my phone bill is still very affordable. (use digi campus and hotlink youth club. worth every penny)
11) i always come online no matter how busy i am.
12) my msn will always in busy status. otherwise, i cant concentrate in what i am doing at all. the message alert really irritates me.
13) i don't like to style my hair. i prefer it to be in its natural way. the gel and wax will annoy me when i sweat.
14) i am always bullied by THE GIRLS in my class.
15) money is never sufficient for me.
16) i always pamper myself with good food when i am down.
17) i love chocolates!
18) used to have lots of interest in photoshop stuff but after knowing that it cannot provide me a lucrative income, i stopped.
19) i hate people sending me emails in mandarin. WO BU HUI TU' HUA YI
20) my mode of transport is my 'bike' aka bicycle
21) i am not very keen on what i am pursuing now (accounting) but i don't seem to have any better options.
22) if i smile when i read sms, i'm probably in love with the sender.
23) i sms in front of my students in class.
24) i like to wear black and white.
25) i don't like underwear. i prefer boxer.
26) i am nocturnal. i usually sleep after 1 a.m. (nowadays 2 smtg)
27) i am addicted to facebook's online poker.
28) wish to have a japanese wife. but asian also not bad la. lol

*124* what is happening to me?
i don't know what is wrong with me lately. i often experience headache and i have consumed panadols quite regularly. i don want to depend on panadols anymore... but the pain is unendurable. if this carries on, i dono how am i gonna concentrate in my studies. haih....=(

*123* A letter to dad
A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to 'Dad.'
With the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the letter.
Dear Dad:
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you.
I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice.
But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it' s not only the passion...Dad she's pregnant.
Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.
Stacy has opened my eyes t! o the fa ct that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy.
In the meantime we will pray that science finds a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it.
Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren.
